Singer Ivy shared an unobstructed word of advice for her hoobaes (juniors) on an episode of her own reality show on M.net IVY BACK that aired on the 16th.

Having successfully graduated from Seoul’s Dongduk Women’s University, Ivy returned to the stage alongside her hoobaes who also aspire to become singers. The performer lent a word of advice to them: “If you can sing, be a singer, but if you can’t, don’t. If you don’t heed my advice, I will punish you.”

She added, “When I see an aspiring singer who can’t sing, I feel like that the person only wants to become a singer to become a celebrity.”

In my opinion, Ivy makes a valid point about the artists of this generation. It seems like contemporary Korean music is only built upon concepts and trends that are constantly changing. With the prolific use of autotune that has been all the rage lately, many so-called “singers” have been able to mask their potential vocal skills—or a lack thereof. However, once you abuse the autotune, it is hard to take artists seriously. Even an autotuner isn’t a shortcut to a perfect performance. If you can’t sing properly, no amount of post-processing will make it sound like you can. At this rate, we may end up watching newborn infants performing on SBS Inkigayo.

i agree with ivy, ive always thought that. most fans these days care about looks, not as much talent. if theyre pretty and not as talented, still lots of fans. not going to point fingers though. but its not their fault. if you’re pretty, companies will come running after you.. why? I agree but only to a certain extent… Yeah some are doing it just to become celebrities but there are some people out there who really can’t sing but they’re very passionate about music and it’s what they truly want to do. And that Taec comment was stupid. He’s a rapper damn it not a singer. -_______- Stupid people. Stupid.
